So many youth are bombarded with societal ills
stemming from poverty. As a result,
communities are plagued with crimes like robberies, killings and gang violence
that affect the lives of many. Would the
church help if it cost them nothing?
In an article written by Howard Kramer in The
Complete Pilgrim, August 27, 2017, Kramer shared information from The Christian
Post stating there are about 300,000 church buildings in the United
States. In urban communities, there’s a
church or two in every block. Contrast
the number of churches in America against the 25% of children who live in
poverty. The United States has the
highest child poverty rates in the developed world.
With so many churches in existence, why is there
still so much poverty? What would happen
if more church leaders took on the cause of poverty? What if more church leaders would make
building up people the order of priority in the kingdom over building new
edifices? Working families need help and
children need to be trained.
Over 50 years ago, we abandoned the liberty we were
granted to walk in. We became more
captivated by new messages of prosperity and name it/claim it professions of
faith. These teachings became a
distraction for all of us. We
relinquished the cause of equality while waiting on material things to be
delivered to us. We didn’t realize that
it takes time to develop faith to the point of total dependency on God. So, when faith didn’t produce for us, we
diverted back to depending on the government which is never a sustainable
source. Most young people weren’t made
to attend church, so we now have a generation of youth who know nothing about
the love of God and others. Oftentimes, kids
were left to fend for themselves. Now we
are surrounded by kids with serious behavior problems, disrespectful and
defiant to parents and others. They live
with an entitlement attitude. Kids end
up being killed or in trouble with law enforcement. Poverty brings about feelings of despair and
hopelessness.
This is a call to action to pastors with outreach
ministries. My organization, Community
Families United Network (C-FUN) through its initiative The P.O.O.R. Project is
offering a program named C-FUN Wishes, Hopes & Dreams Project 21. My program is designed to begin to change
“youth culture” and put kids to work beginning at age 8 and up. They will be able to earn money by doing
chores and serving others in order to help purchase their desires. We need community outreach ministries in
which I like to refer to as “The Village” to serve a large number of youth. My product is a booklet with give something
back coupons to be used as an incentive to gain involvement. The booklet cost
$21.00. It will produce $100.00. The child will be required to reimburse the
church $21.00, learn the principles of Tithing for increase and give the church
10% which is $10.00 leaving a profit of $69.00 as take home pay. The Village group will meet at church to
discuss how they will earn their money and other biblical principles. Kids learn about God while they earn. The Village should continue to reach out to new
youth and family members. Change “Youth
Culture”, help our youth. You can find
